Student years

I come from a family of joiners, my father was a cabinet maker and ran a furniture company in Jamaica before coming to England. My 3 brothers are all carpenters and I decided to break the mould in 1995 by going to University to study Product design and manufacturing. Before I went to university I worked in publishing and then for a number of years in fashion, working as an assistant buyer for a boutique label Valentino/Oliver. During that period I studied at the London college of fashion on a part-time pattern cutting and tailoring course which introduced me to the concept of designing and the attention to detail needed to produce a garment.

Interior design

I was lucky enough to work part-time for an upmarket furniture company in the West end whilst studying for my degree. It was here where I developed a real understanding of interior design and spatial awareness which enabled me to interpret and fulfil clients  design briefs. I had a great exposure to some of the most expensive fabrics and upholstery items used for soft and hard furnishings. It was also a good environment where I was able to develop my selling skills.

Architecture in Milan

I studied abroad in Milan during the second year of my degree and studied architecture as part of my time there. It was this introduction to Architecture that made me decide to study for a RIBA Architectural degree after obtaining my Bachelors Degree in Product Design and Manufacturing. Before I embarked on another degree I took a year out and travelled round the world with my partner.

Buying and selling properties

I was able to access the Architectural Degree in the second year and studied part-time up until the 4th year before I dropped out due to business and family commitments. It was unfortunate but I had started to buy and sell properties during my time at North London university before setting up my business in 2009. I now work as the Sole director for Sascha Thorpe Ltd, designing, planning and project managing architectural projects for clients and other architectural practises.

Personal

I have an extensive understanding of the planning process, successfully obtain planning consent for all my projects over the years. I am able to manage clients design briefs from the initial conceptual stages through to planning and then project manage the build through to completion. I took some time out last year to build my own extension and care for my elderly father.
